The Importance of Mental Health Literacy: Insights from Spirence

Spirence was born just before the COVID-19 pandemic, rooted in years of experience with our sister company, Futures Recovery Healthcare, where we advised employers on the necessity of proper mental health support for leaders and employees.

It was evident that mental health literacy was alarmingly low, especially among leadership teams in the workplace. This realization ignited our passion for educating leaders about mental health, laying the foundation for Spirence.

As the pandemic unfolded, it dramatically changed the landscape of mental health awareness. The stigma surrounding mental health was challenged nationwide, and existing corporate wellness and SaaS companies began to develop clinical mental health solutions specifically designed for employers. Employers who were once skeptical about the importance of employee mental health began to recognize its significance.

Our entry into the benefits space during this transformative time has been exhilarating. Despite the rapid changes, we remain committed to our mission and key differentiator: promoting mental health literacy in workplaces. If you doubt the necessity of this focus, consider the experiences at Futures Recovery Healthcare, a nationally recognized residential treatment program. There, we see firsthand the impact of mental health literacy gaps, as 53% of our patients are employed individuals who, before admission, had little understanding of mental health and substance use disorders.

Our white paper delves deeply into the critical need for mental health literacy, offering insights and strategies to empower organizations and individuals alike. Education is a powerful tool and mental health doesn’t have to reach a crisis point. By increasing awareness and understanding, we can foster healthier, more supportive workplace environments.
